Enrollment process for international freshman students

Congratulations on your admission to the incoming freshman class at Indiana University! This page has your to-do list outlining the steps you’ll need to take to prepare for your first year at 91°µÍø, including how to set up your accounts, reserving your seat in the class, and applying for housing.

Submit your intent to enroll

Don't forget: to officially reserve your spot as an 91°µÍø student for the upcoming fall semester, submit your intent to enroll form and $100 deposit by May 1.

Mandatory enrollment steps

  • Complete your checklist items

    Using your university ID, you can log into Slate and use the checklists to guide you through important tasks you need to complete. Look under the requests section for the Freshman Application Checklist for steps to finalize your admission and obtain your immigration document. The Pre-Arrival Checklist will help prepare you for attending New Student Orientation and coming to the U.S.

  • Set up your 91°µÍø computing and email accounts

    Your university ID number will be listed in your 91°µÍø Portal. Use your university ID number to create your 91°µÍø computing account, which you will use for other important tasks during your admission process, including direct admission review requests.

  • Log in to your 91°µÍø Portal to confirm your intent to enroll, which includes completing the enrollment form and paying the enrollment deposit.

  • Most undergraduates are required to live on campus their first year (with some exceptions). The housing contract and application are typically available in February for the upcoming fall semester.   • Sign up for New Student Orientation

    All new students are required to attend orientation, which is where you will learn what is expected of you as an 91°µÍø student and register for your first semester classes. You'll need to complete your intent to enroll before making a reservation for orientation. Invitations will begin sending in March or April. Make your reservation as soon as you receive your official invitation!

  • Submit final transcripts

    As an incoming freshman international student, you need to provide the official academic records you provided to complete your application and final secondary school transcripts no later than four weeks after the beginning of your first semester.

  • Submit your immunization form

    Indiana state law requires all new students to submit immunization data. Before your first day of classes, you must complete and submit the Online Immunization Compliance form, where you will be asked to provide dates and documentation of immunizations for specific diseases.

Choosing housing and roommates

If you have a preference for a specific learning community, neighborhood, roommate, or room type, you need to indicate this on the housing application. If you would like a specific roommate, you each should request the other as roommate, list your housing preferences in identical order, and submit your housing applications during the same priority window.

There are other steps that, while not mandatory, will help ensure a smooth start to your journey at 91°µÍø Bloomington.

  • Review costs and fees

    Official tuition rates and fees are always available for your review. That includes complete billing and payment information and details on how to set up a personal deferment—or installment—plan.

  • When you enroll at 91°µÍø Bloomington, you’ll receive an invitation to join our official, private online admitted student community. You can visit often to look for a roommate, join communities, plan meet-ups, find campus events, and get to know other students. You can also connect with the Office of International Services on social media.

  • 91°µÍø Bloomington provides tools and support to help you manage registration, financial aid, billing, and student records throughout your college experience. Student Central is the team behind these services and can help you navigate important processes and deadlines.

  • If someone is helping you fund your college education, make it easy for them to do it. Let your parents or guardians—and whomever else you choose—set up e-bill notifications, pay bills electronically, and view bursar account details.

  • Let us know if you need special accommodations to help you perform at your best. Register with Accessible Educational Services (AES) soon as you’ve been accepted at 91°µÍø Bloomington. AES will meet with you during New Student Orientation to ensure that services will be in place when the academic year starts.

  • Make travel arrangements

    As an international student, you'll need to know how to navigate customs and get from the Indianapolis International Airport to Bloomington, which is about an hour away.
