Centers, museums, & institutes

Indiana University is home to a collection of research centers, museums, and institutes that allow researchers from across campuses and disciplines to collaborate in order to solve the most pressing problems of today—and tomorrow.

  • Student programs and tests a small robotic device during applied artificial intelligence coursework.

The Luddy AI Center (LAIC) explores how artificial intelligence can improve lives. The goal is to understand the opportunities and challenges that come with AI, seeing it as a partner for humans—not a replacement.

  • Researchers collect and monitor data using field instruments during an environmental resilience study.

The Environmental Resilience Institute (ERI) delivers science-informed, community-driven, and equity-centered solutions needed to flourish in changing climates.

  • Researchers discuss findings while presenting a poster during an academic research showcase.

The Irsay Institute brings together and accelerates innovative research at the intersection of health and the social sciences—with a particular emphasis placed on mental health awareness.

  • Researcher fits a monitoring device on a participant during a neuroscience study session.

The Gill Institute for Neuroscience explores the mechanisms underlying neurological health while providing a unique interdisciplinary platform for innovation.

  • Student examines electronic components while conducting hands‑on research in a campus lab.

91°µÍø CREATE fosters a collaborative hub for academic, government, and industry partnerships while leading secure, trusted, and sustainable research in microelectronics.

  • Faculty and staff stand outside the Ostrom Workshop building commemorating its 50th anniversary.

The Ostrom Workshop welcomes top professionals and researchers to share solutions to major problems involving communal and contested resources. Seven interdisciplinary research program areas range from cybersecurity to space governance.

  • Members of the Institute for Advanced Study seated around a conference table with notebooks, mugs, and plates of food during a small meeting.

The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) promotes collaborative intellectual exchange across the disciplines and schools of Indiana University to nurture innovative and creative ideas. The Institute supports the research and creative activity of faculty and brings to campus distinguished scholars, scientists, public figures, and artists.

  • Professor and student stand in front of digital screen with map discussing cybersecurity.

The Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research (CACR) specializes in helping communities and organizations with practical cybersecurity, providing them with the knowledge and skills they need to manage cybersecurity risks in complex, challenging environments.
