Final steps for international undergraduate and graduate students

To maintain your immigration status and have a smooth start to your time at Indiana University, all international students must complete these essential tasks as soon as possible after arriving in the United States.

Arrival tasks for international students

Bloomington and 91°µÍø are great places to live and study, and you’ll love your new home and community. Before you settle in, though, you must prioritize these two final requirements to avoid registration holds on your account.

1. Upload immigration documents

After you have entered the United States, complete the Immigration Review section of your Atlas checklist. (This section cannot be completed before you arrive.)

The A19 registration hold on your record cannot be removed until this step is completed and our team has reviewed your documents.

Prepare to upload the following:

  • Your passport
  • Your visa stamp
  • Your I-94 card
  • All original I-20s or DS-2019s (including documents from any previous U.S. schools, if applicable)

2. Submit final, official academic records

You are required to submit final, official copies of your academic records and degree certificates or diplomas within the first four weeks of your first semester. These documents must bear the stamp or seal of the issuing institution. These documents should be submitted to Ferguson International Center. You can refer to your admission letter for more details about which documents are required.

If you do not submit these records, you will be blocked from registering for your second semester of classes.

Note: You do not need to bring physical copies if your school sends them directly to our office.
