If you have never attended college or have completed less than 12 credit hours at another institution or through non-academic prior learning experiences, this is the application path for you.

You'll follow the same application process as our future freshmen. That means:

• You do need to contact your high school and have them send your final, official transcript with your graduation date. Or you need to submit proof that you have earned the High School Equivalency Diploma.
• You do need to have completed the 34 high school credits that we require for admission.

If you have completed 12 or more credit hours at another institution or through non-academic prior learning experiences, this is the application path for you.

Regardless of your age, or how recently you graduated high school, you will follow the same application process as transfer students.

Be sure to choose the correct application based on your desired semester. Your application will put you in consideration both for admission to your desired graduate program and for financial aid.

Admission decisions are made by the specific graduate program, which will inform you about any decisions. Most departments will supply applicants with their Student Identification Number upon admission.

For most programs, the application fee is $70 for domestic and international students. The Kelley School of Business master’s program operates on a different fee schedule.

The online application fee must be paid via credit card. Applications are not reviewed until the fee is paid.

In addition to the basic information, many departments will require GRE scores or other tests associated with that program, a personal statement, a transcript from all institutions attended, and letters of reference. Check with your specific program or department for specific requirements.

Personal statement

The personal statement is an opportunity for you to tell us about your academic and career direction and goals. Be sure that you answer the question that is asked on the application. Make a case for why you will fit into a particular program and what you will be able to contribute rather than just what you hope to receive.

Please note: Each department sets their own recommendation requirements. See the graduate eApp for more information. Start asking for recommendations as early as possible as it can sometimes take professors a long time to complete a recommendation.

Admission decisions are made by the specific graduate program, which will inform you about any decisions. Most departments will supply applicants with their Student Identification Number upon admission.

You will get first and maximum consideration if you complete your application materials by the priority date for the semester in which you wish to begin at 91°µÍø.

Because of requirements for full-time enrollment, international applicants interested in summer admission are eligible to apply only for the second eight weeks of the summer term and are required to take a minimum of 6 credits during this term. As part of your application, regardless of which platform you choose, you will need to submit an essay. If you are applying through the Common Application, you will need to submit one of the essay prompts. If you are applying through Apply 91°µÍø, you will need to submit the 91°µÍø-specific essay.

91°µÍø-specific essay: In 200–400 words, you’ll be asked to describe your academic and career plans and any special interest (for example, undergraduate research, academic interests, leadership opportunities, etc.) that you are eager to pursue as an undergraduate at Indiana University. If you encountered any unusual circumstances, challenges, or obstacles in pursuit of your education, you may share those experiences and how you overcame them. Please note that this essay may be used for scholarship consideration.

To complete your application for admission, we require an official high school transcript and a full senior year schedule (not just fall courses).

If you are enrolled in any college courses in high school, you’ll need to send those transcripts as well. You may be able to earn college credit to 91°µÍø Bloomington. College transcripts may be mailed to the Office of 91°µÍø or sent electronically to iublrecv@iu.edu.

We require an official transcript from each college or university you have attended. If your school sends transcripts electronically and the transcript vendor requires an email address for delivery, please use iublrecv@iu.edu.

If you have completed fewer than 26 transferable semester hours (or 39 quarter hours) of college coursework, we will review your high school transcript as part of the admissions process.

If you have taken classes at colleges other than an 91°µÍø campus, you will be required to send your official college transcript(s) as part of the application process.

If you have completed fewer than 12 hours of 91°µÍø academic credit, you will need to submit your high school transcript. Your high school should send this directly to the 91°µÍø Office of 91°µÍø.

Some programs offer direct admission to specific academic programs and degree-granting schools. Others have additional requirements, like auditions or academic criteria. Review our page on admission paths to learn if you need to complete any additional steps in your application to be considered for direct admission to your school.

91°µÍø's test-optional admissions policy allows you to choose whether to have your SAT and/or ACT test scores considered as part of your application review.

If you choose to have your test scores considered, you may share either official or self-reported scores. If you choose to , you can do so on your application. You may also self-report additional test scores after submitting your application.

To complete your application, you only need to upload a copy of your official academic records. These need to include an original stamp or seal. If the original is not in English, also include a literal translation certified by the academic institution as being complete and correct. You can find what specific documents we need for each high school country below.

You will need to submit evidence that you meet our English proficiency standards described in admission standards. How you demonstrate your proficiency will determine what you need to submit. For example, if you use scores from a test, you will need to submit those. Your documentation needs to be from within the last two years in order to be valid.

If you have taken classes at colleges other than an 91°µÍø campus, you will be required to send your official secondary school records or college transcript(s) as part of the application process.

91°µÍø Bloomington requires all international undergraduate applicants to demonstrate English proficiency. You need to have met this English proficiency requirement within the last two years.

International students who are accepted at 91°µÍø are automatically admitted to Advising & Major Exploration Services (AMES). Students in AMES will work to fulfill the requirements for admission to the major of their choice. Almost all beginning students start their 91°µÍø experiences this way.

A few 91°µÍø schools also offer direct admission to outstanding students, depending on certain criteria.

You may apply for graduate study during your final year of undergraduate study or after receiving a U.S. bachelor’s degree or its recognized equivalent. The following documentation and records will be required for admission along with your completed application.

Official academic records

Submit your official academic records in the original language from every postsecondary school you have attended, whether or not you obtained a degree. If the original is not in English, also include a certified, literal translation. Records must be issued by the registrar or record-keeping official from the institution at which the work was completed.

Notarized copies of academic records are not acceptable. If you studied in the United States or Canada, have official transcripts sent directly to our office from the issuing institution’s records office. If you studied outside of the United States or Canada, contact your department to ask how they would like to receive your academic records.

Official test scores

Visit the website of your intended department to find out which test scores are required. You must submit scores from any required tests before an admission decision can be made. Have testing agencies send official score reports to 91°µÍø.
